| Being rich labor forces, these large-scaled migrants have made great contribution to China’s economic growth, urbanization and hence the advancement of China’s overall national strength and the quality of people’s life. And in the wake of urbanization and industrialization in China, migration will be increasingly frequent. In recent years, the problem of migrant population is closely related to its proportion in the total population was sharply risen. So, issues of migrant population should be paid much attention. So far, the study of the migrant population has been involved in many aspects, including the overall features of the migrant population, the reasonsfor flow, social security, and so on. Relatively, the study of migrant population in defined city residence living intention is not enough, especially for migrant population in small area. The Fifth Population Census of Jinzhou New District ("Jinzhou ND") reflects a migrant population of248,547, which accounts for36.50percent of Jinzhou ND’s permanentresidentpopulation. Additionally, the Sixth Population Census reports a migrant population of493,498, or51.99percent of the permanentresidentpopulation of Jinzhou ND. From these numbers, the migrant population has grown at an exceptionally fast rate during the past decade. In order for the Jinzhou ND government to have a more comprehensive, clearer understanding of challenges that population growth brings, it is necessary to review, summarize and evaluate the features of the migrant population of Jinzhou ND. This paper provides scientific understanding of population flow and provides more reliable data for decision making in order to promote the economic and social development of Jinzhou ND. At the same time, the living intention of migrant population in Jinzhou ND and its influence factors have become very important issues. The thorough study of these issues, can accurately reflect the profound reason for Jinzhou ND’s population flow, as well as mirror the mechanisms that trigger the attraction to and exclusion of its migrant population.Chapter One describes the research background, presents the definitions related to the migrant population, and illustrates the data sources.Chapter Two introduces the classical theories concerning migrant population at home and abroad, and summarizes existing research about the factors of living intention of migrant population in an urban setting. Chapter Three analyzes the features of the migrant population in detail by utilizing the data from the Fifth and Sixth Population Censuses of Jinzhou ND. It considers the features including sex and age structure, educational level, reasons for flow, and housing areas, among others. Chapter Four puts forward the framework of the living intention of a migrant population. Based on the survey of migrant population in Jinzhou ND, the paper utilized the Logistic regression method to analyze this framework. The Logistic regression considered whether the migrant population will convert to long-term residents or not in Jinzhou ND as a dependent variable. Individual features, employment and economic features and social integration are defined as independent variables. Three models were tested:The First Model tested the influence of personal features on the migrant population’s living intention. Based on the First Model, the Second Model added employment and economic features, which are assumed to be under the control of personal features, test employment and economic features. The Third Model tests the influences of social integration features that are based on individual features and employment and economic influences.Chapter Five summarizes the paper, and puts forward relevant policy suggestions for the Jinzhou ND government based on the analysis contained therein. The analysis shows that in Jinzhou ND, the migrant population’s housing condition is not as good as permanent residents, buttheir education level is higher than permanent residents. The empirical analysis shows that employment and economic features and social integration features of the floating population and social integration features of its residence will have a significant impact, peoplewho are in high income levels and enjoy social security has a stronger living intention in Jinzhou ND; Also, peoplewho stay in better social integration condition is more likely to stay in Jinzhou ND. But, among personalfeatures, only educational level has strong influence on living intention, others like sex and age structure or marital status are not. |
