The first city commercial bank of China was born out of urban credit cooperatives in1995. In the end of2012, the total number of city commercial banks was144and their total assets reached12.34trillion Yuan. Bank of Ningbo, Nanjing Bank and Bank of Beijing even became the members of stock market in China. Seizing three based-on market positions of the city commercial banks and analyzing the complementary relationship between city commercial banks and local economy in terms of supporting local economic development, supporting SMEs and servicing for the urban residents. Explore the relationship between the assets, deposits and loans of Xiamen Bank, the development of SMEs and the GDP of Xiamen. According to the findings, proposing measures of the development of city commercial banks.Based on the existing theories and empirical achievements, this paper deeply analysis the relation between commercial banks and local economic development. Firstly, summarizing the previous research on the relationship between the finance and the economy growth and introducing the relationship between the development of city commercial bank and local economic growth from whole to some. Secondly, introducing the development processes of city commercial banks and analyzing the situation and the character of the city commercial banks. Thirdly, elaborating the relationships between city commercial banks and SMEs credit. Fourthly, the relationship between urban commercial banks and local economic growth is investigated. Fifthly, conducting an empirical analysis in terms of Xiamen and Xiamen Bank. Finally, making summary, and proposing suggestions of the development of city commercial banks.
