Scholars and managers in the field of organizational communication have been concerned of communication openness in workplace, communication openness has been confirmed as one of the key factors of business success, communication between openness and incentives related to the presence of a strong positive relationship has a positive impact both on employee empowerment and employee loyalty and job satisfaction. Communication openness will facilitate information and knowledge sharing among organization members, and affect the validity of the decision-making; in contrast, a low level of communication openness with the groups was found destructive. People often use different communication channels or medium at work, such as face to face meetings, telephone, e-mail and instant messaging (Instant Messaging, IM) and so on. There are some differences in the ability to process information between these communication media, which surely have a different impact on communication openness of the organization. Instant messaging is considered a poor communication medium, which is more suitable for the transfer of information that is easier to understand; what is more, the characteristics of instant message of informal communication and indirect message meet the Chinese high-text communication and emotional communication needs, having an unprecedented degree of impact on communication openness within workplace organization.This paper constructs a hypothetical model between instant messaging and communication openness in three directions, using empirical research methods to explore how does instant message influence communication openness in different directions and contents, to confirm that instant messaging had a significant impact on communication openness in different communication direction, not only in the frequency of instant messaging communication, but also in the different communication content, empirical studies have found that instant messaging in upward communication is of highest degree of communication openness, instant messaging downstream communication relatively closed. enriching the study of communication channels, fortunately, we have achieved some results, hope them to be helpful in organizational communication management with useful inspiration and theoretical support.
