With the deepening of the knowledge-intensive service industriesagglomeration such as the financial sector, as well as scientific research and technicalservices, knowledge-intensive service industries agglomeration effect has become animportant aspect of studying about the effects of industrial agglomeration. At present,China’s knowledge-intensive service sector is still in the early stage of development, alarge number of highly qualified knowledge workers are needed. Although China’s slabor resource is sufficient, the supply of knowledge workers still exists a largenumber of gap. At the same time, the pulling effect on the employment in theknowledge-intensive service sector is not obvious. Therefore, performing in-depthanalysis of the specific action mechanism of the knowledge-intensive serviceindustries agglomeration and other relevant factors on the level of employment, making scientific and reasonable strategy to upgrading employment, will havefar-reaching practical significance. The paper has elaborated the action mechanism of the employment effects onthe knowledge-intensive service industries agglomeration, and derived the theoreticalmodel to measure the employment effects on the knowledge-intensive serviceindustries agglomeration. Based on the theoretical analysis, making use of spatialpanel data models that include the spatial weights matrix which combined geographicand economic factors, we perform an empirical analysis of mechanism ofknowledge-intensive service industries agglomeration, economic base, the wage leveland the level of urbanization on the level of employment in China. The empiricalresults show that:(1) the overall level of employment in China, the level ofknowledge-intensive service industries agglomeration and the level of wage andurbanization is low, the whole basis of economy is relatively weak, and all this aboveshow large differences in provinces;(2) the level of employment and theknowledge-intensive service industries agglomeration, the economic base, the wagelevel and the level of urbanization in provinces show significant spatial correlation;(3)the knowledge-intensive service industries agglomeration in the spatial dimension cansignificantly promote industry-wide employment levels, but in the time dimension itspromoting role is not so significant;(4) the economic base can significantly promotethe improvement of knowledge-intensive service industry employment levels, but its effect on the employment level of other industries is not significant;(5) the level ofwages will do slight inhibition on the employment level, but the absolute value of thecoefficient of employment elasticity is small;(6) the level of urbanization cansignificantly promote the employment level in the knowledge-intensive service sector, but its promoting role on industry-wide employment levels is little. Finally, the paper proposes that on aspects of policy choices, the governmentshould make greater efforts to adjust industrial layout, and actively guide theknowledge-intensive service industries gather effectively, coordinate and integrateeconomic growth and employment growth, and take great efforts to improve the levelof urbanization; the enterprises should formulate a reasonable payroll managementsystem, at the same time, improve the system of staff training. Accordingly, improvethe level of employment in the provincial domain effectively as well as thenationwide.
