As private enterprises began to play an important role in China’s economic construction as a strong force to promote social productivity and development, the essentiality and urgency of private enterprises’carring out social responsibilities is becoming more and more apparent. With the advent of knowledge-economy and globalization, private enterprises is facing competition from all aspects including brands, human resources, qualities, culture, credibility and so forth. From the long run, whether they have social responsibilities and senses to prevent crisis, whether they own their core competencies and abilities for sustainable development, will directly influence the process for private enterprises to explore out of China and be accepted by world.Based on the theoretic analysis and research on the status quo, and combined with successful cases in both Chinese and foreign enterprises, this paper tends to give suggestions for intensifying the sense of social responsibilities of private enterprises. The first part of the paper sorts out different research achievements and theoretic models both in and out of China via the retrospect and overview of different related papers. The author also gives the definition for social responsibility and social responsibility of private enterprises. The second part of the paper first concludes the expressions of the problem and analyses the reason via the analysis for current situation of private enterprises’s fulfilment of their social responsibilities in China from the interest-related parties’aspects. Then, according to the study of the succesful cases of enterprises’carring out social responsibilities both in and out of China, it posed the suggestions and inspiratiosn for China’s private enterprises. The last part integrates the analysis of current situation and the case study, gives suggestions to intensify social responsibilities for the government, the society and private enterprises respectively, and makes a summary of the whole paper. It also gives a prospect for future research.Due to the incompleteness of the legal provision, the lack of power in governmental supervision, the absence of punishing and prompting measures, misleadings by the mass media, disorder in private enterprises’managment, failure in setting up modern enterprise systems, overweight in short-term behaviors and unawareness of social responsibilities, current China’s private enterprises have problems in carring out their social responsibilities in all aspects like unfaith in economic behaviors, disorder in management, enviromental pollution, impropriety in treating employees, disqualification in products, inability in public services and so on.Referring to the experiences and inspirations of carrying out social responsibilities by well-known enterprises in both China and other countries: government ought to strengthen the functions of making laws and setting standards, supervising, punishing and also prompting. The society needs to give full scope to the mass media, the industry association and the third-party organizations. Private enterprises need to establish cultures mathing social responsibilities, adjust enterprise organizations, enforce financial, human resource, product, marketing and crisis managements.Via the mutual effort from the government, the society and private enterprises, it is expected that China’s private enterprises will better fulfil their social responsibilities, thus establishing a better social image, winning more compliments for their brands and strengthening core competencies to face the challenge from WTO and the globalization of economy, and to lay a solid foundation for the further development of private enterprises.
