The applications of Computer Technology in casting industry make casting processdesign rely on scientific predictions rather than experts’ experience. Most of the currentcasting CAD systems are customized and can’t meet the requirements of differentindustries, because they lack common industry standards. It’s necessary to developcommon CAD system for casting process design against characteristics of the foundryindustry.The thesis analyzes the current study situation and the trend about casting processCAD on both home and abroad. According to social demands and situation, a fullyfunctional casting process CAD system is developed under the AutoCAD2010environment. The system selects Microsoft Visual Studio2008as Developmentenvironment and ObjectARX2010as development tools. Features of the system includethe initialization module, casting process design module and assistant function module.The key techniques include the initializing drawing setting, parametric design, customentity, the application of MFC and ODBC database, AutoCAD entity drawing anddevelopment of menu and toolbar.To achieve the parametric design of the system graphics, this thesis uses ObjectDBXto establish custom entity derived from the AcDbEntity class. Users can modify theparameters through the MFC interface of AutoCAD style, you can also direct manipulategrips to realize the parametric design of the graphics.The system can not only reduce the use of papers, but also improve design efficiencyand reduce the reliance on experience, so it will have broad application prospects.
