As a high-efficiency and high-precision machining method, honing has been widely usedin the field of machinery manufacturing, whic is essential in the automotive, aircraft, shipsand other machinery manufacturing industry. Large marine gantry CNC honing machineis used for marine engine, and its performance directly determines the quality and lifetimeof marine engines. This type of honing machines only rely on imported currently. Howev-er, with the rapid development of the domestic shipbuilding industry, large marine gantryCNC honing machine must be domestic produced. CNC system is the key control deviceof CNC honing machine, determining its performance. The CNC of large marine gantryCNC honing machine was studied in this paper.Firstly, this paper has analyzed the processing technology of honing and the operationflow of honing machine. As honing having commonality, this paper use parametric me-thod to design G code templates for CNC honing maching.Then, this paper has studied the Z-axis motion of the honing machine. By analysing theperformance of honing machine hydraulic equipment and oil way and doing experimentalverification, derived characteristics of the Z-axis movement. Using PID control algorithmand the characteristics of the Z-axis motion, to research control algorithm for the Z-axismotion of honing machine and control Z-axis.Finally, A special CNC honing machine interface has been developed by using CNC API,and achieve the honing processing.Through above research, this paper realized the motion control of large marine CNC hon-ing machine honing process. By setting the parameters of honing processing, CNC willuse G code templates to generate processing G-code, finishing honing processing.
