In order to improve the quality of the design, reduce test times and shorten productdevelopment cycle, the review and evaluation of injection mold design is essential. Atpresent, the main way of the mold design review is manual self-checking. As thecorrectness and completeness of the review’s result largely depends on the mold designer’sexperience, it’s very hard for young designers because of the lack of experience.Meanwhile,.without an effective unified review software platform for so many items, toomuch time has been wasted on repetitive modeling, and it has resulted in the overallinefficiency. To solve the problem, with the funding support from the National SupportProject of Science and Technology (2011BAF16B01), a review system of injection molddesign has been developed on the platform of UG NX in the thesis.Injection mold design is constituted by numerous steps. The whole process ofinjection mold design is analyzed deeply in the paper. According to the design process,this paper sums up the regular review items, and the framework of injection mold designreview system is proposed. At the same time, the key technology in the system are brieflyintroduced, including CAD/CAE integration, feature recognition and motion simulationtechnology.The plastic molding process simulation analysis has been widely used to check thereasonableness of molding design, for it can reflect realistic molding process. This paperbrings in the idea of CAD/CAE integration. On the basis of the integration model, theseamless connection between CAD and CAE is built. Thus the check of gating system andcooling system design scheme is accomplished by plastic molding flow analysis, whichuses the CAE model generated by property assignment and the finite element modeltransformation techniques directly.It’s very important to check static interference of injection mold, and the automatic identification of parts is the key point to achieve high efficiency in interference checking.In order to identify parts automatically, the feature technology has been analyzed deeply.As an example, the automatic recognition of the cooling system has been fulfilled by usingthe method of graph-based feature recognition so that the static interference check ofcooling system is accomplished.The problems of mold motion interference and machine suitability can be found inadvance by the method of motion simulation. This paper discusses the virtual motionsimulation technology, whose key process is building the motion model. And thecharacteristic of injection mold’s movement has been analyzed. The motion simulationmodel of injection mold is built with the method of motion group. Thus the dynamicinterference check is accomplished with the virtual movement of injection mold.Meanwhile, the structure of the injection molding machine has been simplified so that it’sconvenient to analyze the suitability of injection mold and injection molding machine.On the basis of the above research achievement, a review system of injection molddesign has been developed on the platform of UG NX. And some cases have been studiedto illustrate the module function and prove the effectiveness of the system.
