Iron roughneck as a upgrade substitute for traditional hydraulic power tongs, is widely used in the automatic drilling, Since the 1970 s, foreign countries has formed relatively mature product patents. Based on detailed survey datas of the iron roughneck technology at home and abroad, according to the project “TZG/Y-165 Folding Arm Type Iron Roughneck” cooperating with Bohai Equipment Manu- facturing Company, this paper puts forward the TZG/Y-165 folding arm type iron roughneck technology scheme. The device is mainly composed of five parts, respectively, spinning wrench, torque wrench, telescopic boom, column and base. TZG/Y-165 Folding Arm Type Iron Roughneck has the characteristics of compact structure, stable performance, high degree of automation, can greatly reduce the labor intensity of workers, decrease drilling investment and improve the work efficiency.This paper puts forward the design scheme of a set of iron roughneck torque wrench by comparing the advantages and disadvantages of existing torque wrench’s clamping and rotating mode, this scheme combines the mechanical structure and hydraulic system, solves the contradiction between the clamping ability of clamping mechanism and the requirement of large torque in the process of making up or breaking out, realizing the maximum breakout torque requirement for 165000 Nm. According to the actual working requirements, mechanical structure and hydraulic system’s detail design works of torque wrench are completed, the mechanical strength analysis of the main parts of torque wrench are conducted. Based on the theory of mechanical system dynamics, the simulation model of torque wrench is established, the dynamics simulation experiment is carried out, simulation curves of displacement,velocity, acceleration and load of moving parts under different conditions are obtained, which provide technical supports for future application.
