Cold rolled ribbed bar is a kind of reinforced bar which has transverse rib on the surface, it made by cold rolling hot rolled steel wire rods. Reinforced bar winding machine is used for winding bar to coil rod in the last operation of production. Considering the horizontal construction of reinforced bar winding machine is low efficiency and uneven stacking, which has been widely used in the production of cold rolled ribbed bar at present, this paper presents researches on a new type of reinforced bar winding machine. The new type winding machine is vertical construction, which comprises two spools to roll and unload reinforced bar alternately, and it equips with clamp and shear mechanisms to lead and unload reinforced bar automatically. The spooling and traversing mechanism are driven by two three-phase asynchronous frequency conversion motors to improve work efficiency and product quality.To rationalize the structure of spool, the stress and strain distributions of reinforced bar was studied in detail. The expression of spool minimum inside diameter was solved in terms of partial deformation and straightening technology. This paper provided foundation for the structure design of spool.With analyzing the change rate of winding diameter, linear speed, rotational velocity and moment of inertia during operation, the variation of load torques including tension moment, plastic deformation moment, friction moment and inertia moment were discussed, and the balance equations of load and moments was solved. Analysis and Simulation for reinforced bar winding machine by ADAMS were performed, and the result verified theoretical analyses and explained the change trend of load torques, torque and rotational speed of the motor. On these bases, a closed loop control system was designed, which could compensate for the variation of load torques to maintain constant tension.The braking effect of different brake schemes were analyzed by ADAMS, which provided foundation for the brake system design of spindle. Analysis and Simulation for balance of the spindle by ADAMS were performed. The balance weight of actuating arm has been optimized to reduce the imbalance inertial force.According to the research presented in this paper, a prototype of reinforced bar winding machine was built. The results of prototype test indicated that the machine is running smoothly, stacking evenly. The machine performance achieved the anticipate goal. This new type machine can wind reinforced bar with high-speed, heavy-weight, and improved the automation level of the cold rolled ribbed bar production.
