In blind hole drilling on the diesel crankshaft with 42CrMo workpiece, the tool is always winded and broken and the tool life is particularly low. Experiment study on tool edge honing is dedicated to tackle this difficulty. Based on fundamental principle of tool edge honing, models and parameters in operating the honing process for various kinds of honing are proposed. Different methods of honing, namely sharp edge, chamfer edge, round edge, and waterfall edge are performed. Experiment setup, procedure, and influencing factors are detailed in this paper. Experiment results’ analysis are based on tool wearout and tool-life. Characteristics of each honing method are summerized. It has chosen that the best tool edge honing is waterfall edge to drill 42CrMo workpiece. It would be helpful to engineering applications and further research.
