The Preparation Of Agglomerate Of Abrasive Grains And Research On The Grinding Of Titanium Alloys

Agglomerated abrasive grain is made from fine ones by additive bond. Compared with large conventional grain, agglomerated abrasive grain shows high performance of self-sharpening, high grinding efficiency, uniform grinding force, and low roughness of work piece, so it can be applied into difficult-grinding occasions. Abrasive belt which made up of agglomerated grains acquires high performance, such as long-life, removing chip easily,cooling quickly as grinding, especially good performance for grinding of titanium alloy without chips adhering and work piece burning. So researching of agglomerated abrasives has important significance.In this paper its preparation theory was analyzed and the influence of its ingredients and processing parameters to performance was researched. Then this technology was applied to manufacture abrasive cloth. Through abrasive belt grinding test it is researched that the rule that Agglomerated abrasive belt ground titanium alloy.The preparing mechanism of Agglomerated abrasive was analyzed in this paper firstly.According to the mechanism, three different preparing methods, rolling, extrusion and cutting,were found. The grain size distribution of the agglomerated abrasive grains when rolling is concentrated and its shape is approximate circular shape. When extruding the grain size distribution of Agglomerated abrasive is also concentrated and its shape is irregular. When cutting the shape of Agglomerated abrasive is controllable and its grain size distribution is uniform. Then, Agglomerated abrasive cloth was made with its abrasive grain dispensing depending on gravity. Through transformation Agglomerated abrasive belt was gained and it was used to do grinding experiment to TC4 titanium alloy in abrasive belt grinding machine.The research showed that the effective grinding time of Agglomerated abrasive cloth is2.35 times than general abrasive cloth. In addition, its average grinding force fluctuated slightly which is beneficial to the stability in grinding process.
