Sandstorm And Haze:Discussion On The "Haze" During Chinese History

Recently, the wide-range haze-fog process frequently appears. Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei region always attack by this disaster. Fog is quite familiar to the public, but haze seems to be a word emerged in recent years. In fact, the haze word existed in oracle. In the ancient literature, haze word mainly has four meanings:dust,metaphor of dark,the origin of modern haze,and the same meaning with "bury". In past times, "haze" usually represented sandstorm, but now it means haze. In he ancient literature, "meng" and "fog" always represented the Chinese traditional agriculture age haze. This paper uses the twenty-five history as the main data to research meng and fog phenomenon in ancient China. The conclusions include following contents. Firstly, meng and fog mostly happen in the spring, less happen in winter, least in autumn and summer. Secondly, meng and fog and long period climate change are not significantly related, we can only say in the partial dry and partial drought period quasi-fog-haze is easy to happen. Thirdly, meng and fog and wind records show a clear negative correlation. Lastly, the meng and fog records in the twenty-five history are mostly concentrated in the capitals, and the sites of the records mainly locate in the huang-huai-hai plain, which experienced a process of migrating as the political, economic and population centers of gravity moved. Finally as the example of Tianjin area, this paper makes a preliminary study on haze phenomenon of China since modern time. And found that after modern industry development in Tianjin, fog and haze phenomenon has experienced upheaval, meng and haze gradually transformed into modern fog and haze. During Chinese history, in the era of traditional agriculture and modern industrial age, "haze" respectively showed as sandstorm and fog-haze,then express difference of environment in different times and the human impact on the environment.
