The Study On Foam Finishing Of SMS Non-woven Fabric For Surgical Gown

Disposal surgical gown is a kind of functional clothing, which can protect medical workers and patients from invasion and infection with pathogens. As protective clothing, good properties of protection function and comfortability are two important parts. Nowadays, polypropylene SMS non-woven fabric is the main raw material of disposal surgical gown. However, the properties of water, blood and alcohol repellence of crude SMS fabric can not meat the requirement of liquid repellence for disposal gown. In addition, PP SMS fabric performs bad performance of comfortability because PP fiber is hydrophobic. As a result, it is necessary to carry out finishing to make SMS fabric perform good properties of liquid repellence and comfortability.As a new technology, foam finishing is widely used in the single-side finishing because of its low add-on and permeability. The fabric can be treated just on one side and the other side maintains the original properties by using foam finishing. In this paper, foam finishing is used for three repellent finishing on one side and then hydrophilic finishing on the other side. Foam height, foam half-life and foam density are discussed to evaluate the foam performance and determine the dosage of foam agent and stabilizer by single factor analysis. The foaming temperature is discussed. The curing temperature, curing time, dosage of waterproof agent of three repellent finishing and drying temperature, drying time, dosage of hydrophilic agent of hydrophilic finishing are discussed.The research results show that the best formulation of three repellent finishing is as follows, mass concentration of TG-580 is 2%, mass concentration of SDS is 0.5%, mass concentration of HEC is 0.2%, mass concentration of CMC is 0.3%; the best foaming temperature is 25℃; the best curing temperature is 130℃ and the time is 3min. After three repellent finishing, the contact angle of SMS fabric is 132.9°, alcohol resistant can reach level 8 and spray level is 5. It performs good property of liquid repellence. The best formulation of hydrophilic finishing is as follows, mass concentration of TF-629 A is 1%, mass concentration of SDS is 0.1%, mass concentration of HEC is 0.1%, mass concentration of CMC is 0.1%; the best foaming temperature is 25℃; the best drying temperature is 90℃ and the time is 2min. After the hydrophilic finishing, the water vapor permeability is 5954 g/(m2·d), alcohol resistant can reach level 7 and spray level is 4. It performs good properties of liquid repellence and comfortability. And it has good directional vapor-transfer effect because of the different vapor permeability between two sides.
