The nurmerical control(NC) machine tool is composed of input/output(I/O) devices, numerical control system, strong elecrticity control device, servo drive system, position feedback device, machine tool and so on. The nurmercial technology contain information processing technology, servo drive techonolgy, sensor technology and so on. The demands of NC machine are increasing as a consquence of the development of computer industry and information technology.This paper is focused on the development of experimental system of five-axis NC machine tool in laboratory. This paper can be separated into two parts. The first part is about structure design and construct of mechanism and the second part is about designing control system. The structure design and construct is about establishing the 3D model of machine tool and setting up the experimental platform. The main design of control system is to choose hardware facilities of Siemens 840 D, program the PLC configuration and customized development of the human-computer interface(HMI). The main reaserch of this paper is as follows:Firstly, the mechanical structure of five-axis numerical control experimental system is designed. The basic machine is designed by the 3D CAD software-Solid Works, It includes the rack the translational axes and the rotation axes. At last, the basic machine is set up.Secondly, the hardware module of the control system is selected and the hardware configuration is finished. The supply and control circuit of this experiment system are designed. The link between the hardware is complished. The configuration of parameters of system and NC servo system are determined.Then, the design and customized development of PLC and HMI are complished based on the openess of Siemens 840 D. There are two aspects: as to PLC module, program of PLC hardware configuration and the distribution of I/O interface are complished. The HMI of control system is developed applying the special congfiguration software Win CC Flexible. The HMI of experiment system of special five-axis NC is designed.Finally, the data alignment of system, intercalation of user program and connection of control system are introduced in detail. The whole debugging of this system is accomplished. The design of experiment system for five-axis NC machine tool is finished.
