This paper is a research of design basis for W type sealing ring used in new aircraftengine. Technology of aviation turbine engines and gas turbine is critical to engineperformance, the current world’s most advanced general aviation engine uses advancedtechnology of W sealing ring. At present, only The United States, Canada and a fewdeveloped countries master this core technology, our country is still blank in this fieldand only depend on imports as W sealing ring development is extremely difficult for its“thin wall (0.1-0.3mm wall thickness), large deformation (rolling deformation than thewall thickness up to30-50times), precision (micron-level precision)”. Therefore,mastering this technique is really important to developing aero engine for our countryin the future. The core of this paper is research on design and performance of Wsealing ring, presenting its key performance indicators and lay the foundation forfuture research on testing and experiment.W sealing ring’s processing method should be reasonable precision plastic formingtechnology depend on its characteristic of structure and material. Precision plasticforming technology is widely used in aviation, weapons and equipment because of itsshort production cycle, low cost, good performance, high reliability, etc. We could notknow the foreign specific manufacturing technology as the core of sensitive aviationtechnology, but spinning and hydraulic precision plastic forming must be one of theeffective ways of W sealing ring (ultra-thin, large deformation, precision) performance.It is also worthy of further research and development of our future research ofprecision plastic forming technology.Firstly, this paper comparatively analyzed of the performance of domestic anddeveloped O-, C-, U-type sealing ring, based on previous studies of shape andmechanical properties of O-, C-, U-type, carrying out the research of the new W-typebasis of designing. In this paper, after integrated current research of sealing ring,proposed a new W-type of multi-channel bends sealing ring, and compared with thetraditional sealing ring of its performance. Through research and analysis of structureand shape of sealing ring, optimized preliminarily design method. Then analyzed itsstructure strength, get the most optimized shape and structure of sealing ring in actualcondition. Innovation of this paper is”analysis of fatigue life of W sealing ring used inaircraft engine”. Using finite element software, selecting Miner linear cumulative damage theory, putting the traditional and the new W sealing ring in the sametemperature simulation environments finally analyze them strength and fatigue life.The analysis results show that the performance of the new W-type sealing ring wasbetter than the traditional one in strength and fatigue life. This result provided atheoretical basis for future test and experiment.Gas leakage(ratio) is a very critical factor in the performance of sealing ring used inaircraft engine, improving the accuracy of calculation of the amount of gas leakage ofsealing ring help make better designing of aircraft engines and forecasting itsperformance. this paper presented a calculation method of one-dimensional gasflowing with friction variable cross-section to improving the accuracy of thecalculation result. This model can be used in calculation of leakage rate changed littleof cross section. And leakage calculation was another innovation of this paper.Through research and analysis, the new W sealing ring was better than thetraditional one in strength and fatigue life. And the author provided some basis fordevelopment of sealing ring in the future theoretically. But in the process of developingsealing ring there would be a lot of issues explored. There are also other possibledesigns which are worthy of our further exploration and research.
