The Study Of New Rural Space Form In Xi’an

During the last30years of reforming and opening-up in China, rural`s constitutionexperienced the most significant development, and recorded a great deal of remarkableachievements. Those constructions in grassroots rural are fully swing in the backgroundof building a new socialist countryside policy, which is raising by government in theearly years of the21st century. In rural area, local people`s living standard continuouslyimproved along with the economic increasing, which leading to a high demanding ofliving environment`s improvement. The construction of new socialist countrysideimproved living conditions of rural residents a lot, which made modernization of ruralarea to another step. This thesis is mainly focus on those changes and status on ruralspacial form during this new historical period.The research subject of this thesis is new rural in Xi`an Shaanxi, author`shometown, and the classification is based on three kinds of construction mode, unifiedplanning and construction;unified planning, independent building and independentbuilding. The research methods are typical case selection, data collection and fieldsurvey. The process is objectively showed a different pattern under the new ruralconstruction of spatial characteristics. And the methodology follows two articles writingby Yue WU, which is step by step. Firstly, use actual investigation as research method,trying to display the status of a new rural space on an objective perspective. Secondly,analysis those typical village, street and courtyard space under the guidance ofarchitecture expertise.Thirdly, reference the morphology of old village, find their ownspacial characters, combine with experience of local villager, reflect the strengths anddeficiencies new rural. Fourthly, horizontal comparing those different construction model, Summarize characters of the new rural spatial form. And finally, propose someof the author`s own understanding and views on status quo of new rural.The research on new rural is not only an open area to be developed, but also ansocial problem that can be wide-spread discussed. It is a product of rapid economicdevelopment in a specific historical period. It can be understanded as subversion of thetraditional lifestyle and production of farmers, which rationality but irrationality. Sohow to truly improve the quality of farmer`s living conditions? How to retaingeographical and cultural qualities of architecture? How to build a traditional andmodern harmony and complementarity? And how to find architectural forms to adapt tothe requirements of future development? We still have a long way to go. The propose ofthis thesis are not only hoping to provide meager power to the new planning andconstruction of rural area, but also expecting a broader academic concern and discussionon them.
