The purpose of human settlement construction is to have a better living environment.A settlement space formed with self-organization,creation and evolution only if the space meet people's living needs.The settlement itself is composed of single buildings,thereby creating a perfect spatial form of the settlement.Based on the fractal iteration theory,this paper studies the spatial patterns of rural settlements in the plains and the hilly and gully regions along the eastern yellow river in Inner Mongolia.After the study of spatial form of the east village in the east Yellow River coastal area in Inner Mongolia and the fractal dimension of its calculation and analysis,the fractal dimension value of characteristics in the east village space form of the Yellow River coastal area in Inner Mongolia are analysed in three scale levels:1.From the biggest scale,the fractal dimension values of traditional villages in hetao plain and the loess plateau hilly region in the form of settlement space are different,explaining that the overall shape of the village in the development process quite different.2.From the intermediate scale level,traditional villages in hetao plain inherit the genes of original village in a sense,reflecting the similarity of the site selection conditions of villages.however,according to the different site selection,the fractal dimension values of settlements in hilly areas of loess plateau are different,showing a higher natural growth pattern.3.From the smallest scale,this level is close to the scale of individual buildings.The fractal dimension values of traditional villages in Hetao plain and the loess plateau hilly region in the form of settlement space are different,reflecting the great difference between individual buildings and the tightness of clusters.Through the use of box-counting in Fractal Fox software,the fractal iterative features of the spatial pattern in the east village of the Yellow River coastal area in Inner Mongolia were studied thoroughly.Based on the statistics of 7 samples of traditional villages,the fractal dimension values of the plane spatial structure of traditional villages in hetao plainis calculated as D=1.27,r=0.97.Based on the statistics of 15 rural settlement samples,the fractal dimension values of the plane spatial structure of villages in the hilly and gully areas of the loess plateau is calculated as D = 1.43 and r=0.97.Obviously,there are some difference between the spatial morphology of settlements under different terrains,but the correlation coefficient r are the same and close to 1,indicating that the spatial morphology of the east village space form of the Yellow River coastal area in Inner Mongolia has obvious self-similarity.In general,the settlement space of village in the east village space form of the Yellow River coastal area in Inner Mongolia has the characteristics of chaos and orderly,scale invariance,self-organization and self-similarity.This paper analyzes the problems existing in the spatial pattern of the eastern villages space form of the Yellow River coastal area in Inner Mongolia under the perspective of fractals:1.destruction of the natural ecological landscape in traditional villages.2.the irregularity of artificial material space:a.the over-differentiation crisis of the traditional villages overall space in plain areas;The disordered expansion of the villages overall space in hilly area.b.The contradiction between the architectural space of villages and the demand for modern life.c.traditional village traffic space is occupied in plain area;The natural decline of village courtyard space in hilly area.In the plain area and the hilly and gully regions along the east of the yellow river in Inner Mongolia,the reconstruction strategy of the traditional villages of Hetao Plain,represented by Lapu Village and Tubusai Village,Tumd Zuoqi,and the settlements in the hilly and gully regions of the Loess Plateau represented by Laoniuwan Village and Kouzi Village in Qingshuihe County is developed.
