Transportation network is a typical complex network, which has complex dynamic,temporal and structural features.Using a network to simulate the interconnectedness betweendifferent things in the real world has gained attentions of sociologists and natural scientists.Road network is an important part in transportation network. To study the urban road networkwith complex network theory could effectively combine micro individual and macro entity,provide new perspectives and approaches to urban road network research, and at the sametime, help optimize the road network structure and provide decision support for urbanplanning and construction.This paper starts from the complex network theory and introduces network sciencestatistical methods for a hot issue in city traffic. It analyzes the structure of the complexfeatures of the urban road network and identifies its implications for urban construction andplanning. This paper builds complex networks based on the urban road network againstattacks and vulnerability assessment methods, and taking Xi’an road network as an example,discusses urban road network efficiency and connectivity probability variation. At last, itidentifies the key sections of the road network and its potential impact on urban transport.The main results and conclusions of this paper can be summarized as follows:(1) It usesthe dual to build urban road network model and analyze the basic properties of complex urbanroad network by complex network theory such as node centrality indicators, clusteringcoefficient, the average path length and network efficiency and so on.(2) It concludes thaturban road network has the small-world characteristics but not necessarily belong to theconclusions of scale-free networks through empirical research.(3) In reliability of the roadnetwork, this paper have an experiment on a road network of random attacks and attacksbased on three kinds of selective center degree. By analysis of the two metrics to build theroad network under different circumstances demonstrated by the anti-aggressive andvulnerability At last, it proposes further expansion and research which could be carried out onthe basis of this paper.
