With the advancement of technology and the enhancement of computing power,the traditional private and public key cryptosystem can not satisfy the needs of rapiddevelopment in future. Quantum secret communication which is derived from thecombination of quantum mechanics and information theory provides a new solution.It is based on uncertainty principle and no-cloning theorem to make the transmissionsafe in quantum channel. Global communication is what we are always looking for.At present, the metropolitan area of quantum communication network based onoptical fiber has been relatively mature and it was beginning to settle into the stageof practical application. But its transmission distance is limited and the quantumrepeater technique is not perfect. So quantum communication which is based on theoptical fiber network is difficult to achieve a secure communication around the worldalone. But satellite-to ground quantum communication can build a global securecommunication network together by connecting among each metropolitan areanetwork.The designed electronics system of this paper is one part of quantum keydistribution experiment between satellite and ground. It connects PC and hardwarecircuit. It completes the communication with peripheral chips, a variety of interfaceprotocol conversion and control signal output according to the upper machineinstruction. Due to the particularity of spaceborne equipment environment, thermalvacuum and high radiation conditions restrict the use of new products and newtechnologies. We choose XILINX virtex-II pro series chips which has more maturetechnology, higher reliability and widely used in space project. It has an embeddedPowerPC405hardcore. PowerPC mainly completes instruction parsing which istransferred by PC and data processing in quantum key distribution. Logic designmainly completes peripheral chip interface design (NANDFLASH interface, ADCchip interface, TLV2548chip interface), a variety of interface protocol conversion(an LVDS interface protocol, RS422interface) and the control signal output (lightsource drive output, temperature control, PWM output). Two parts are connected byPLB bus, commands are transferred by reading/writing register, large set of data aretransferred by reading/writing RAM or FIFO. The software processing and logicwere integrated to a piece of FPGA, it can improve the stability of the system and reduce the design area.The system has been successfully applied to multiple validation experiments,including indoor quantum key distribution experiment in local,1km of quantum keydistribution outside. We have proved that the system is stable, reliable and it cansatisfy the requirement of quantum key distribution between satellite and groundthrough long-term test.
