With the development of social economy and the improvement of people’sliving standard,the requirement of stability of power grid and power quality becomemore and more important to the electricity load, and the demand for electricity alsobecomes larger and larger. Thus, a good planning and design of Power grid not onlycan guarantee security and stability of power grid and good power quality, still cansave a lot of energy, realize sustainable development. As an essential work of powergrid planning, substation site selection is directly related to the reasonable of thestructure of the grid, and also has a great influence on the benefit of power sector.Research status on substation site selection are reviewed in this paper,substation site selection of past research mainly focused on the use of variousalgorithms to optimized the station site, few studies are on the rank of the station siteto be selected based on the evaluation system. Even in the substation site selectionoptimization algorithm research, only a single traditional or intelligent method isapplied to the optimization of the site. Due to all kinds of optimization algorithm hasits own advantages and disadvantages, the site selection result which is based on asingle optimization algorithm is difficult to be satisfactory. Therefore, research onsubstation location method that combination of a variety of methods to choose areasonable substation site is very necessary.As the basis of substation site selection, this paper expounds the substation siteselection principle, and according to it we build a comprehensive evaluation system,including the target layer, criteria and index of substation sites. The system aim at theoptimal substation sites as the overarching goal,select4indicators: grid architecture,investment analysis, terrain topography and environmental conditions constitute asthe criterion level, index layer includes13specific indicators such as the generallayout, line corridors, and load center distance, total investment, annual operation cost,topography and geology. In this paper, we using a combination of fuzzy analytic hierarchy process andgray relational analysis to get the substation site selection. This paper firstlyintroduces the two different methods fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) andgray relational analysis. And then use a combination of the two methods to thesubstation site selection. Through the FAHP to get a more reasonable resolutionfactor instead of the traditional0.5which is used in the grey correlation method, andin the final calculation, the weight of each index is introduced into the greycorrelation method. As a result of combining the subjective method and objectivemethod, the result will have a higher credibility. In the process of combining the twomethods, a use of the Kendall correlation coefficient between the two methods istested to determine its ability to be combined.With the new site selection evaluation system, this paper uses the new methodto select the best substations station site from the4station site to be selected, provethe feasibility of the proposed algorithm.
