With the development of technology and society, the engineering project becomes increasingly complex. How to guarantee a satisfying accomplishment in limited time and maximize the efficiency of resource utilization have become increasing concerns. Electric power engineering project has some characteristics such as large scale, high investment, complex structures and easy influenced by different factors, therefore, scientific and effective schedule management applied in electric power engineering project is particularly important.In the course of implementing the construction of Jixian110kv substation, the auther studied the content of schedule management in construction projects starting from the present situation of domestic schedule management and comparing with the foreign schedule management. A lot of original data about Jixian110kv substation project has been collected. The paper analysed the formulation of overall plan, and the implement and control of the project then problems of schedule management are found and also, some corresponding measures are put forward.This paper analyses the present research situation of schedule management and the gap between domestic and international project management.Through the research on schedule management theory, the paper studied the content, method of application and the function of schedule management. The particularity of electric power engineering project and the characteristics of substation project schedule management are also presented.This paper also presents the significance of sicentific schedule management in the actual substation project, and points out some problems that currently existing in the field and propose solutions finally.This paper presents an improved direct compression method according to the crashing problem in practical engineering. The model proposed is used to optimize the construction time schedule of Jixian110kV substation. First, a network planning diagram of this project is obtained by creating work breakdown structure of all items of the project activities. In this model, the result of equivalent simplification to the original network is same as that of direct compression method. The results show that this model could make effective duration compression and considerable cost control effect. Using this improved method can greatly reduce the difficulty of solving the crashing problem and the method is of great practicability, which makes the method have a certain theoretical value and practical significance on the drawing of future substation project schedule and solving of crashing problem.
