As the society is relying more on electric power, the reliability of power supply gets more demanding. How to reduce the risk of power grid operation to a minimum and to ensure reliable power supply is a critical issue that power grid enterprises should address.This paper explores the background, purpose and significance of risk management of grid operation. This paper introduces the concept of risk management to power grid operation, analyzes and summarizes main factors influencing the risks of power grid operation by drawing on practical cases of Beijing Power Grid, and thus makes in-depth analysis and exploration on risk identification, safety evaluation and risk control measures of power grid operation.The author, in combination with years of experience in production management and cases of operation risk management of Beijing Power Company, integrates risk management approaches with advanced risk management concepts, introduces the matrix model of risk management for the system design of gird safety operation management according to the characteristics of grid risk management and features of organizational structure of power grid enterprises, clarifies the tasks and safety responsibilities of the matrix risk management system at all levels, and thus builds a sound matrix grid operation system for risk management. The paper adopts the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to evaluate risk factors in power grid operation, quantifies the ratio of influence of each factor on safe grid operation, and thus carries out more targeted plan for the improvement of reliability of power grid. It also develops perfect risk management procedures for Beijing Power Grid, sorts out various measures in risk management of power grid, formulates corresponding control measures, and thus builds a scientific and highly efficient risk management system. Through power grid risk management, the linkage mechanism among different departments including safety supervision department, dispatching management department, power equipment maintenance department and marketing department is established to achieve continuous improvement of grid management and enhance the risk management system for grid power dispatching.
