In modern manufacturing industry, assembly line is the most prevalence manufacturing system. The assembly line balancing problem is one of the most important issues in the design and management of assembly line. Because the balance of the assembly line impact operating efficiency of the entire production line as well as performance of the entire manufacturing system. The ultimate aim of assembly line balancing about work in product is to try to equal the operating time on each station, and make operating time close to the takt time. And these will avoid insufficient of production time and waste situation in waiting process on some stations because of the difference of time between the stations.This paper first introduces research development process and research status of assembly line, the traditional method of industrial engineering, MTM and other key theoretical, highlighting the bilateral operation. And then this paper takes the engine assembly line of company A as the research object, through conducting a detailed investigation to operation of the operator on site, finding the station’s production time, and determining the bottlenecks in the production line through these data. Finally, improve the operating for the continuous double bilateral operation unit to the bottleneck through the combination of theory and practice. And ultimately the result of improvement is reduce two workers, and time of the bottleneck down to the takt time.In this paper, the steps of improvement make the assembly line more efficiency, and reduce the cost of enterprise. Such methods and procedures improved the bottleneck operation through integrate theory. And these will make enterprises get more benefit, and also work as a catalyst for the development of industrial engineering.
