With the increase of cars in residential zones, the existed norms of traffic facilities are not able to meet the demand any more resulting with problems like traffic jam and public space occupied by traffic facilities. Under the constrains of the existed roads and parking space in residential zones, it is really significant to analyze subjects including inlets and outlets of residential zones, cross section design forms of these roads and ground parking berths to filtrate rational improvement plan of main traffic facilities and coordinate traffic capacity in residential zones with living conditions. Aiming at objects aforementioned, this study mainly research on as following:(1) According to the existed traffic facilities conditions of residential zones, this study elaborated the layout of inlets and outlets of residential zones, roads, parking facilities and other calming measures. Furthermore, with the support of field research, the existing conditions and oversees cases, this study dissected the limitation of the existed layout.(2) This study concluded that the feature of actual connection while poor circulation is what residential zones differ from highways and that it is on the premise of priority of pedestrians and living conditions that motor vehicles should improve transit efficiency.(3) Improvement plans of inlets and outlets, cross section design forms of roads and parking facilities were demonstrated for given scenarios according to the existing conditions of residential zones. The main content of these improvement plans including changing size of inlets and outlets and their layout, distinguishing cross section design forms of roads under different traffic volume and its composition, choosing the form of parking berth for pavement for different level and mending pavement-parking problems with better streamline of road traffic organization.(4) This study simulated the improvement plans under different scenarios giving out delay, length of queue, vehicle speed and traffic flow. Data of driving behaviors, traffic volume composition and traffic routing in these scenarios was decided by the layout of residential zones and field research. Advantages and disadvantages of improvement plans were discussed with indicators obtained from the simulation.
