In the Digital Age, the digital media has been emerged into children’s lives and they havebecome the new user generation of new media and devices. The spirit of stories and games areessential parts of children’s growth, which play an important part in getting them recognizethings, communicate with the stuffs and get to know the world. Through stories and games,children experience emotional changes such as concentration, laughter, ecstatic and so on.Mood feelings, the primary emotional experiences, are the feedbacks of communication in thegrowing-up stage. The colorful emotional experience is the indispensable stimulus whichpromotes children’s development both physically and mentally. Games realize thecommunication between children and the outside and among children. Narrative story-telling,as the most ancient way of information transmission and organization method, is theirreplaceable way for people to talk and know the world. To this point, the interactions ofgames and stories are coherence with each other.The research purpose is to explore how to let children experience the world moreeffectively and gain better emotional experience within. Using the children’s digital games asthe narrative story telling platform, aiming at stimulating the emotional experience,combining the research into narrative storytelling and interactive narrative storytelling, thisresearch puts forward the principles and methodology of interactive narrative storytelling inchildren’s digital games design and verify the theory through the design practices.This paper digs deep into the three aspects of children’s mental and growth characters,emotional experience theories, game values and importance. Then abstract the narrativeelements from the terms of narratology, interactive narratology and interdisciplinarynarratology. Incorporation with games content design, emotional experience design elements,children’s games needs research and analysis, this paper comes up with the designmethodology for children’s games main body and interactive narrative storytelling designprinciples under the guidance of multiple emotional experiences. Here stressed threeprogressive stages of emotional experience levels, stabilize the impressive feeling, constructthe immersive feeling and create the controlling feeling. The first two can be achieved by thegames itself and the pre-descriptions, which is underlined the design principles for narrativestorytelling games design. The last one refers to the perspective of the disappeared narrator,which emphasize the participative role of children as the creator for games and stories.Children acquire the autonomy of games experience through self-exploration.On the basis of theoretical research, this paper gives a design practice under thesupervision of create the controlling feeling design principle. Conducting from theory todesign practice and confirming from practice to theory. Aiming at realize the high-efficiencyof communication between children and digital media, starting from the needs of interactivedigital games and children, the paper summarized the design principles and specific designmethods of interactive narrative storytelling and abstract the potential values and guidance forchildren’s games interaction design on the narratology aspect.
