With the wind power have been incorporated into the Baiyin grid, a series oftechnical problems in the gradually emerging, it is not only a peak and frequencyregulation, change the effect of network structure, system voltage, the two relayprotection and fault characteristic quantity also changed significantly. In2008thefirst wind farm access Baiyin grid, due to wind power installed capacity is small andthe relevant technology is not mature, the electrical power system relay protectionsetting calculation does not take into account the effects of wind turbines, but thewind farm is regarded as a load, the wind power generator as the synchronousgenerator processing. However, when the wind power access system of a certainscale, the actual operation experience has shown that the wind farm as the load isnot reasonable, fan to the point of failure to provide short-circuit current waveformand transient harmonic content will affect the protection performance, may causeprotection device malfunction, so it is necessary to compute the in-depth study ofprotection setting the wind farm. How to deal with wind power grid connected to thesuccession of relay protection setting calculation technology has become the mosturgent challenges, to ensure the safe and stable operation of the demand of windfarm.Based on the related basic data collected in Baiyin power grid wind farm, thepaper elucidated the general setting principles of transformer and circuit relayprotection related to wind power, summarized the relay protection setting status quoof Baiyin transformer and collection circuit on power grid wind farm, and analyzedthe influence wind turbines to step-up substation internal relay protection settingcalculation. The paper proposed the improved scheme based on the original settingcalculation principle through analyzing the relay protection setting status quo ofBaiyin power grid wind farm.In this paper, the Baiyin wind farm setting calculation as an example,combined with the wind power generation characteristics and operatingcharacteristics, in-depth analysis of setting calculation principle and the tuningprocess to protect four of trade-offs and grasp the detail of relay protection for windfarm, in order to minimize the impact of wind turbines on the protection devicereliable action. It is beneficial to the. the safe and stable operation of power grid.
