As a contemporary national pillar industry, the electric power industry is the keydepartments of national economy. There are challenge and opportunity along with ourcountry market economy reform and development. With the implementation of thereform scheme about electric power that with “the separation of the factory and network”and “on the internet by price” as the core, power has become a commodity on the market,it will be supervised and used directly by the users. The power grid undertaking hasdeveloped rapidly in our country, and the power grid renovation project is in full swingurban and rural. Distribution network is more complicated and the traditional manualmanagement methods can not satisfy the demand of people for the high-quality powersupply. Therefore, A modern management mode which can be quickly adapt to themarket economy is desperately need in the electric power industry. The electric powerbusiness information which use modern information technology makes the traditionalpower industry to the highly centralized, better educated, technology transformation, cansatisfy the demand of modern electric power business.The rapid development of China’s national economy makes the needs of the powerconsumption on the increase. In order to improve the quality of power supply and ensurethe unimpeded and smoothly of the power distribution network, the construction ofautomation system is extremely urgent. Based on the status of development ofdistribution network automation domestic and overseas, this paper analyzes the necessityof automation system construction. Started with the whole of the distribution networkautomation, this paper completes the structural design of the hardware and software, andalso introduces the development scheme of the system. A set of perfect service systemcan be established by construction of the distribution network automation system. Usingthe automation system, we can make the power distribution network move economicallyand efficiently. And it improves the utilization rate of power resources, reduces the costof production and makes the standardization and normalization of the management. Italso improves the level of the production and management and work efficiency of powerdistribution network and it improve the overall benefits of the power supply enterprise.
