Research On Slowing Down Urban Public Space Planning And Design

Since the reform and opening up of China, the city life rhythm is becoming more andmore fast along with the high-speed development of economy and the speeding up ofurbanization, and the urban public space as an important place in urban life has beenwidely constructed in the cities. However, it contains numerous resources environmentaland social problems behind the high speed development and fast life rhythm, andlarge-scale urban construction has also brought up a large number of lost space out ofhuman behavior scale and activities. The slow city movement in Italy in1999began toreflect on the highly developed and fast-paced life, and set up the worldwide slow cityorganization alliance.It encourages the natural and ecological small town with a longhistory to join,and advocates a kind of leisurely and slow way of life.Based on the above background and guided by the concept of slow city, this articleputs forward the concept of slow public space, researches the slow attribute of publicspace, analysis the existing main problems and reasons of slow public space, explores thekey of how to build the slow city public space system, researches the planning and designmethods of how to slow down the public space,and try to provide the beneficialreference for the future urban public space planning and design and construction practice.The slow public space system constructed in the paper focus on the public space,including slow nuclear, slow area, slow porch and slow node four elements. It proposesthe key point of system construction: plan key areas of "slow space" system, cohesion the"slow space" and the urban transportation system and link the network of "slow space"system. The slow public space planning and design method study includes four parts, firstof all, it points out that the mixed use has a foundation meaning for slowing down thepublic space;Secondly, it researches the method of slowing down the public space frombehavior and awareness two aspects; Third, it studies how to plan the relatively independent and quiet public space from the speed space isolation design and trafficcalming design two aspects; Finally, it points out the planning and design approach toslow down the public space to improve the walkability of slow public space from theblock shape, facade interface and space scale three aspects.
