Hatch cover is one of the main equipment of ship, generally used for maskinghatches and protecting cargo against invasion of storms and rain, and can be easilyturned on and off for cargo loading and unloading. The operation safety performance ofthe ship is affected by the structural strength of hatch cover. The structural strength ofhatch cover is increasingly being taken more attention by both designer and constructerwith the large-scale of ship and the function diversification of hatch cover. The platesize and structural specifications are generally determined in accordance with relevantregulations of classification society in the hatch cover design process, but the wholestructure strength and the dynamic performance of hatch covers is difficult to becalculated through the traditional method.The300,000DWT ore Hatch Cover is studied in this paper, the software ofANSYS Workbench is used for the three-dimensional model building, the overallstructural strength and natural frequency calculation, and the mode analysis of hatchcover. The finite element model of hatch cover is verified to be correct by comparingthe measured data and the software calculation results of the roof deformed under itsown gravity. The main supporting member sizes of hatch cover are determinedaccording to IACS UR S21specifications, the hatch cover structural strength ischecked at different locations, and the structure design is optimized. The naturalfrequency and the weak parts destroyed by vibration of hatch cover are obtainedthrough modal analysis, and reasonable solutions are proposed. In short, the analysis method of overall structural strength of hatch cover based onfinite element techniques is given, the stress magnitude, the natural frequency and themode shapes changed with the excitation frequency are also obtained through the studyof the hatch cover strength. The theoretical basis is provided for the large spanstructures rational design and the destroying parts projection from the study results.
