Connected-tower structures are complicated high-rise buildings which composedof two or multi towers with overhead bodies connecting them together. In recent years, with the rapid development of social economy and engineering technology, connected-tower structures are used widely in our actual project more and more. Because of theirmagnificent and unique building facades, the connected buildings are loved more andmore by architects and owners. However, owing to complex forms of structure,connected-tower structures are under complex seismic forces. But current research onthe seismic performance of these structures under seismic forces is also notcomprehensive and in-depth. How to efficient and exactly analyze and design theconnected-tower structures and how to evaluate the anti-seismic performance in case ofmulti-case earthquake and rare earthquake is the urgent problem to be solved bystructural engineers. This paper summarizes the characteristics and classification of high-rise buildingsconnected structures, in reference to study the research results about connectedstructures at home and abroad, the main research about factors which is related withcharacteristics and seismic performance of connected structures, and how to betterdesign connected structures. This paper details the model used to analyze connectedstructures. By changing the parameters of the project, the analysis and contrast ofdynamic characteristics and seismic response of connected structures. With the background of a connected-tower structure project, the static and dynamicanalysis of connected structures with modal response spectrum method and dynamicprocess analysis. First, the integral structure and single tower were compared in terms ofthe dynamic characteristics and seismic response, study the impact on the overall structure given by connector. Second, by changing parameters such as the mode ofconnection, position of connecting body and upper structure, Analyze and compare thedynamic characteristics and seismic response, research the effects of these parameterson the connected-tower structures. Finally, select three seismic waves with site of theactual project, the elastic dynamic analysis with SAP2000, compare the differences ofresults between dynamic analysis and spectrum analysis, indicate the need to additionalcalculations with time-history analysis method. Besides, establish the elastic-plasticmodel by SAP2000, the structure can meet the seismic requirements, there is certainsafety margin under the earthquake.
