Hannah Arendt’s Engineering Philosophy

Engineering are human in order to sustain their own survival and reproduction,purposeful and systematic nature of the various elements to create a basic substance ofpractical activities, It is a direct productivity and the basis of the existence anddevelopment of human society. Since the20th century the rise of philosophy ofengineering integrated "engineering"(the human creation activity) into the researchfield of vision, changed the past confuse of the engineering and technology, graduallyestablished the subject category and the theory system of engineering philosophy, for usto carry out the research on a theoretical basis.In this paper we select a famous American philosopher Hannah Arendt’s engineeringphilosophy to study, to describe and demonstrate she’s wealth of ideologies, in order toprovide academic references and theoretical reference which can promote engineeringdiscipline development of philosophy in china. In this paper, we consider Arendt’sphilosophy of engineering from the concept of “making”. From the ancient Greek timesto the modern times, Plato’s theory of “making” concept, Aristotle’s “making” four said,Bacon’s theory of “tool”, Michelet’s “making” socialist essence of engineering isprocessing, all of them are consider “making” as the basic substance practice. Arendt’swork, making, operation, the three different survival situations is along the path tofurther thinking and reflection. In the public sphere and private sphere of the threeconcepts of correspond to the person and nature, man and civilization and therelationship of the people, while the rapid development of modern science andtechnology makes people broke the awe to the nature and ignore the attention to humanbeings that led to alienation of the science and the humanities. This phenomenon bring huge destruction and disasters to human civilization., resulted in alienation of the worldcrisis in this day. Arendt keenly recognize the crisis, and excellent analysis the causeand performance of the crisis, put forward to solve this crisis through engineeringeducation, public participate actively in project activities, awareness and understandingof engineering practice.
