The "China Manufacturing 2025" is a “significant strategic measure” for China to develop into a manufacturing power.It puts new and higher requirements on higher engineering education.As an important type of higher education system,higher engineering education is an advanced specialized education science and technology as its disciplinary foundation and taking as its primary task the cultivation of engineering talents capable of transforming science and technology into productivity.Against the background of “Made in China 2015” and “One Road,One Belt”,“it is the core issue for discussion to train engineering talents fit with the requirements of China's modernization construction and its economic globalization.Firstly,this study efines the connotation and characteristics of the term,quality,drawing on which,it analyzes the connotation and constituent elements of engineering quality.Guided by the construct of macro engineering and referencing the theory on quality component and quality model,it proposes that the expected structure of engineering quality should comprise engineering consciousness,theoretical knowledge on the macro engineering discipline,comprehensive quality,engineering skill and engineering ethics.The expected structure of engineering quality is engineering consciousness,large professional theory,comprehensive quality,engineering skills,engineering ethics.These five elements constitute a structure of the "five in one",interacting and complementing each other.Secondly,under the guidance of the construct of macro engineering concept,the author designed and formulated a questionnaire entitled “A Survey of the Engineering Quality of Engineering Students of Higher Education Institutes” in accordance with the connotations of quality components and the quality model theory.It was distributed to students of two universities located respectively in Hebei and Henan provinces.Suggested by the survey,the engineering quality of college students is structural.In the engineering quality iceberg model,engineering consciousness consists in the core of potential competence.The macro discipline and engineering skills are part of visible competency;and comprehensive quality and engineering ethics are potential competencies.Overall,the engineering quality of engineering students is not high.In terms of engineering consciousness,they are short of modern engineering consciousness and engineering spirit,both of which need correct guidance and reshaping;Regarding the theoretical knowledge on the macro discipline,they are deficient in capability to conduct interdisciplinary studies,the external leaning motivation being higher than the internal one.As for comprehensive quality,they are not highly motivated to engage in lifelong learning and transcultural communications and possess inappropriate cognition thereof;With regard to engineering skills,they are weak in ability for industry-required engineering practice and development;For engineering ethics,the training model is monotonous and short of systematicity to do with humanism feeling and industry moral responsibility.Finally,The author contends,on the basis of the above-stated analysis,that the cultivation of engineering quality of engineering students should be improved from the following four aspects.First,Promoting and developing new construct on higher engineering education to enhance the engineering quality of engineering students.Second,Innovating the curriculum for training talents in line with the education perspective of macro engineering,with attention attached to the education of engineering culture,Third,Constructing a new teaching mode for training talents with the quality for macro engineering through research project research and intricate engineering issues,with emphasis laid on improving education quality.Fourth,Strengthening resource provision and condition provision to supply and improve the system that sustains the improvement of the engineering quality of engineering students.Through the effective implementation of the above measures,it is expected to provide reference for cultivating the engineering quality of engineering students.
