In recent years, with the rapid development of social economy and industrial technology, higher requests have put forward to power system. The high efficiency and stable operation of power system has become the foundation for all industries. Power distribution system, as the most direct link contacting the power system and users, is intelligently developing by leaps and bounds. And the microcomputer protection unit is an important device to guarantee the stable and reliable operation of the intelligent power distribution system.With the present situation of the intelligent power distribution system and microcomputer protection at home and abroad, and demand analysis of microcomputer protection, this thesis proposed a design of overall plan of the microcomputer protection. STM32F103RBT6 microprocessor, with Cortex-M3 as its core and of high efficiency and low power consumption, is used as the main controlling chip. Along with protection algorithm it can timely handle the relay tripping or give a signal when the distribution system breaks down or in abnormal operation. The upper computer can communicate with protection unit through MODBUS protocol to achieve remote controlling.The research mainly involves: hardware circuit design, protection algorithm research, software programs design and system performance test. The hardware and software of the entire device and all function modules are designed with the master control chip as the core. For the realization of quick and reliable requirements to distribution system protection action in modern society, wavelet algorithm and Fast Fourier Transformation(FFT) in the protection algorithm is improved, to increase the speed of data processing. With power on operation test to the prototype device, it shows that device could deal with abnormal situations accurately and fast and can well connect with the master computer. All respects are reaching the design requirements and requests of intelligent power distribution system.
