With the constant deterioration of ecological environment and the gradual shortage of energy, high-rise buildings should play a greater role on the energy-saving and emission-reducing. Thus passive techniques is widely employed in the building design as an effective and simple option of energy saving. As one of the main means of passive techniques, natural ventilation plays an important role in building efficiency. However, because of the various limiting factors of high-rising buildings, there are only rare successful cases in passive energy saving of it in practice. The two main reasons for the lack of reference for architects in design phase, one is the lacking of thesis and data about the law of natural ventilation for high-rise buildings as, the other is the lacking of a simple and practical aided design method.This article is mainly discussing how to employ natural ventilation in high-rise building, analyzing the problem and related research in natural ventilation of high-rise building, and proposing that high-rise building using air courtyard combined with atrium is currently an important issue for further research in this area. The first part of this article includes the correction and amendments in the criterion for wind field of atrium in high-rise buildings, and researches on the parameter settings in the CFD simulation of high-rise buildings, which will lay foundation for further study in simulation environment and evaluation methods.Secondly, study the law of atrium wind field in high-rise buildings which is influenced by the shape and size of the atrium. The study will simulate a series of high-rise buildings with different shape, plane size, and height of atrium. And analyzing how these factors influence on wind environmental comfort of the rooms when using natural ventilation by atrium. Basing on the former research, simulate the high-rise buildings combining atrium with air courtyard, and analyze the influence of the number and location of air courtyard on the rooms aforementioned.The last part of this article mainly studies how to provide a useful aided design method for high-rise building. By studying an effective prediction on wind speed and wind environmental comfort, it can also lays the foundation on the research of aided design method. Then, via the CFD simulation validation and discussion of this method, offer a set of lessons for the relevant follow-up study.This article mainly analyses the relation between atrium form and atrium wind field, aiming at providing some referable quantifiable data for similar designs. Meanwhile, the study of the aided design method in this sort of buildings will become a kind of promotion for the utilization of combining air courtyard with atrium in high-rise building.
