Fault diagnosis system provides protection for the safe operation of power grid, the scale of power system is increasingly expanding, put forward higher request to the power grid fault diagnosis system. The extensive application of the power fault recorder provideds a lot of valuable fault recorder information for the operation staff. At present, diagnostic information from SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system and Relay Protection Fault Information System and WAMS (Wide Area Measurement System) system can be obtained in electrical power dispatching room. The effective use of fault recorder information in power system fault diagnosis according to the diagnosis result from SCADA system become an important issue. This paper studies a design of fault recorder data analysis software, power grid fault diagnosis method based on fault recorder data.This paper introduces the characteristics of fault recorder data of COMTRADE standard format. It describes the processing algorithm to extract fault time, sequence component, phase component, fault direction from fault recorder data.This paper developes the analysis software based on fault recorder data, introduces the program development environment VS2010, set up the data structure, give the design of obtain related fault recorder data according to fault diagnosis result, fault recorder data files read, waveform display, channels adjustment, snapshot and phase analysis. The software can use the fault recorder data redraw the changes of electrical faults and abnormal operation time, and can process and display fault recorder data from multi stations at the same time.This paper uses a fault diagnosis scheme based on fault recorder data. This method can get the time of circuit breaker disconnect in the first time from the current fault recorder data, completes the division of the fault stage on the basis of the time. It extracts each stage positive sequence current component and fault direction from multi stations fault recorder data, comprehensive uses current direction to finish power grid fault diagnosis, determines faulty equipment. Use the simulation test of IEEE14 system by PSCAD software to verify the effectiveness of the scheme.
