At present, with the rapid development of China’s wind power, wind power curtailment is more and more serious, caused a serious waste of resources and national economic losses. According to the reason for curtailed wind power, analyze the advantages and disadvantages of several feasible methods of solving the problem of wind power curtailment, such as pumped-storage power station, transmission line, installed electric boilers and wind power heating. Combining with the characteristics of power system, indicate wind power heating may be the most effective way to solve the problem of wind power curtailment and it has been extensive promotion in northeast power grid. It is important to promote wind power consumptive and relieve operation difficulties of wind power into the grid in winterWind power heating through installing boilers and heat storage device instead of the traditional coal-fired boilers, using low "abandoned wind" for heating, improving the level of wind power consumptive, have obvious coal-saving benefits and social benefits, but also has some economic benefits if through reasonable distribution of benefits. Operating mechanism of wind power heating is to run electric boiler in abandoned wind periods, while storing heat; electric boiler shut down in other periods, heating by heat storage, achieved heat load is all provided by "abandoned wind power". Additional, giving a flexible operating mechanism under the extreme conditions. However, when the abandoned wind power decrease, the grid will increase the power consumption of thermal units to meet the heat load, due to the energy efficiency of thermal units is smaller than the boiler, wind power heating may be no longer save coal compared with conventional heating methods.In order to analyze coal-saving benefits of wind power heating and provide a reference tool for making its optimal operation plan, this paper established an optimal scheduling model including wind power heating, coal consumption to a minimum as the objective function, increased heat balance, electric boiler operation, heat storage device operation and other constraints compared with the traditional model. To solve the model, the paper used the commercial optimization software CPLEX, which has fast, better quality result, and other advantages. Finally, though examples demonstrated effectiveness of the model and coal-saving benefits of wind power heating. The results showed that wind power heating can accommodate effectively abandoned wind power in low load periods, but it is limited, when the coal-saving benefits was reduced when abandoned wind power decrease, which is Instructive for wind power heating in the practical application of China.
