With the growth of the port container traffic, it causes more problems such as urban traffic congestion, environmental pollution and so on. So, it becomes the research hot spot for people to establish an intermodal terminal, improve the logistics system of container transportation and build a low carbon transport system. In reality, the construction of the railway intermodal terminal is often on the basis of the existing container logistics system. It belongs to the increment of port transportation network design problem increasing a new node. It makes this problem administrative because that the operation of the intermodal terminal has impact on the traffic network and the traffic analysis has the dynamic stochastic properties. This thesis focuses on the improvement of metropolitan transport, logistics service, and carbon emission caused by the operations of the rail-road intermodal terminals in the container transportation system.The thesis firstly analyzes the container intermodal transport system with identifying system elements and the mode of transportation. According to the theory of the four steps of the traffic network, it has an analysis on the activities of the system. It also focuses on the analysis of three kinds of service mode and determines the service performance. Secondly, it builds the model based on theory of queuing theory and traffic flow of container transportation logistics system for system modeling. A dynamic analysis model concerning with reverse logistics, delay of the intermodal terminal operation, carbon emissions and other factors was proposed. Thirdly, it builds the two-tier hybrid simulation model based on the combination of discrete event theory. Finally, a case study on an actual system with 24 hours dynamic performance was carried out to illustrate the effectiveness and validation of this hybrid simulation model.The meso-micro dynamic analysis model have not only congestion problem with dynamic stochastic characteristics of traffic network, but also considered the operation of intermodal terminal railway container freight station logistics service and the container terminal logistics services. This hierarchical simulation model can trace the activity of a single transport vehicle and analyze the traffic network flow, the dynamic characteristic of the logistics service and transit operations. Though the simulation it can get the results of road congestion, container transport service cycle, transportation costs and carbon emissions.
