Construction hoist is a kind of construction machinery of greater probability to cause accidents. Relevant departments attached great importance to the frequent accidents and made two regulations on safety management of construction hoist witch one of them is that the number of people in the hoist must be limited in nine and the other is that overloading must be strictly prohibited. For the protection of construction workers, a construction hoist remote monitoring system was developed. The main contents are as follows:This paper introduced the research status of the construction hoist safety monitoring technology and the field of passenger recognition, though needs analysis, design proposal of this system was given. This system contains two parts, monitoring terminal and remote monitoring platform. Monitoring terminal detected the two indicators of that the number of people in the hoist cage and hoist load, and completed information remote transmission. For this, this article proposed a scheme of passenger recognition based on pyroelectric infrared sensor array, proposed monitoring scheme based on pin-type weight sensor, proposed a GPRS-based remote monitoring solution. Also, this paper aimed to establish a remote monitoring and management platform based on B/S structure.In the hardware design of monitoring terminal, hardware block diagram of the system was given. Then this article expounded the schematic design of main control module, passenger recognition module, load monitoring module, GPRS communication module, display module and other part of the hardware system. The modular programming method was used in software design. In addition to the main program, each subroutine was assigned as required, such as Identification number subroutine, Weight detection subroutine, GPRS remote information transmission subroutine, output display subroutine etc.In this paper, partial functions of the remote monitoring & management platform were designed, the development environment and tools of monitoring platform were described. Besides this, the design of the monitoring slip database, the communication between the monitoring platform and monitoring terminal and the web services pages were also carried out.Finally, the design objectives were verified through the function test of each monitoring terminal. During the site installation and site test of monitoring, the functions of monitoring terminal that collecting state parameters and transferring the real-time data to the monitoring management platform had been confirmed. Through test, the monitoring system has achieved the desired effect.
