Logistics automation of warehouse is the trend of modern enterprise development. Automated warehouse is the core technology of the enterprise logistics automation. It stores and retrieves goods quickly, and has the advantages of rapid, accurate operation and saving labor. More and more enterprises use automated warehouse to improve the efficiency of logistics. At present, the warehouse logistics of steel drums manufacturing industry relies on conveyors, forklifts and other semi-automation equipment, in many cases manual handling, palletizing will help a lot. It is in urgent need of fully automated warehouse logistics. But the design of current automated warehouse, such as the layout and operation mode cannot be fully applied to the steel drums warehousing and logistics. It has important significance that design an economic, efficient automated warehouse for steel drums based on its character.A unique automated warehouse is designed for large steel drums, above 200 L, in this paper. The scheduling strategy of warehouse in different conditions is present, and the warehouse management software of large steel drums is developed. The main contents are as follows:The design rule of automated warehouse for steel drums is puts forward based on the analysis of steel drums’ character. The overall layout of warehouse, structure of racks, crane stacker, and operation mode of crane stacker are determined. The crane stacker is detailed designed.Determine the scheduling rules of crane stacker based on analysis of the working time of crane stacker under different conditions. Two crane stackers will work together in the same aisle in the case when steel drums entry or exit frequently. Conflict-free cranes stackers’ path optimization algorithm is designed based on dynamic region partition with the Max-Min Ant System(MMAS) algorithm, which produces high-quality for the problem. Analyze the influence of the process sequence of warehouse order, and a greedy algorithm is designed to optimize the sequence of order.The automated warehouse management system is designed based on the structure of B/S and some mature open source frameworks and technology are adapted, such as J2 EE, Struts 2, Spring 3, and Hibernate 3.The proposed scheme, the scheduling algorithm for two crane stackers in the same aisle and the optimization for the sequence of the order are evaluated with practical case by Flexsim logistics simulation and computer programming.
