The tram is a new and sustainable development green transportation under the background of city modernization. Construction and operation of the tram’s projects have a significant effect in the improvement of urban traffic structure, easing urban traffic congestion and promoting inter-city interconnection and also bring significant social and economic benefits. With the rapid development of the tram at home and abroad, the demand for tram signal system is growing. The tram signaling system plays a central role in the safety operation of the tram, its main technical objective is to ensure that safe and efficient operation of the tram, and it can achieve operational control and safety protections about the tram.Switch control system is an important executive system in the track side of tram signaling system, it is critical in terms of traffic safety and operational efficiency, and it can improve the automatic control in the tram operation. At present, the domestic research for switch control system focused on the three-phase AC switch and the DC four/ six-wire machine control system, but the research of control module of single-phase AC switch is still in blank. In the switch control subsystem of the tram, using the single-phase AC switch, it has low probability of failure of the motor, small maintenance workload, more reliable the action switch convert and more in line with the needs of practical application. Therefore, proposing to research and design the control module of single-phase AC switch of tram signal system can complement the diverse needs of actual application, and makes it realizing nationalization. Therefore, there is a great significance to study and design tram on Single-phase AC switches control module.Based on the above background and research the current status of the tram signal system at home and abroad, the paper analyzes the operational characteristics of the tram and learns from the key technologies of rail transport and signal systems. Taking the four-wire single-phase switch machines as research object, the paper designs a tram switch control module and it is suitable for the development of urban rail.Firstly, the paper describes the overall framework structure of the tram signaling system and the structure and function of the track-side controller; and introduces the working principle of four-wire switch control circuit and as theoretical groundwork for the subsequent design. Based on the full analysis of the function, performance and interface requirements, the overall scheme of the module is designed.Secondly, in the paper, it designs the hardware circuit and interface of module, describes a switch machine driver indication circuit, microcontroller circuit, current feedback detection circuit and CAN communication circuit. And on the basis of analyzing module software requirements, it designs the module communication protocol and software processes.Finally, the component failure rate is calculated, analyzes and tests the reliability and safety of the control module through Markov reliability model and fault tree analysis. Analysis data showed that the control module is suitable for the tram signal equipment safety standards. The result of research provides the basic data and theoretical basis for the trackside execution unit’s further development of tram signal system. The research method can be applied to the rest of the trackside execution unit module.
