With the rapid development of digital manufacturing technology in aviationmanufacturing industry,3D digital design technology is widely used in the aviation field.During designing mathematical models of tooling, there always comes to many problems,such as lower efficiency, making mistakes and leaving something easily, in order to solvethese problems, a method, which is based on CATIA, was proposed to ensure the toolingmodel specification.According to the studies the different between domestic traditional tooling designmethods and advanced digital design methods aboard, CAA was determined as thedevelopment tool. Then the technology of digital tooling models and the principle ofdevelopment with CAA was introduced in details, that would offer the system of toolingdesign with specification ways the basic theory.In this paper, domestic traditional tooling design was studied and the whole softwarestructure was designed by the actual needs from the factory, then with the support ofreasonable cited knowledge engineering and the background running technology, a completesoftware for designing3D models with specification ways, was proposed at last.Prototype system of the software for designing models with specification ways wasdesigned, which is useful to tooling design. With the help of the software, there would spendless time to check and more efficiency in model design with specification ways.
