With the tendency that EMUs and Subways are higher-speed, more automatic and more comfortable, more and more information needs to be transported in the train, and the train communication system is becoming one of the most important part for the train. The gateway is the most critical and complex equipment used in train communication system. Studying and mastering the core technology of gateways are of great practical significance.A UIC gateway can be seen as an ordinary TCN gateway enhanced by the capabilities of a UIC Mapping Server (UMS), which has better properties in interconnection, and interoperability for vehicles. Firstly, IEC61375-1and UIC556protocols are studied, and data processing mechanism in the gateway and the relationship between TCN standard and the application of TCN by UIC are showed. The whole UIC gateway software structure is given, and interfaces between software components are analyzed.The UMS is composed of five components including UAGT, UWTM, UTBC, UIMCS and UNGS. The UAGT is responsible for configuration, start-up, and control of the WTB link layer, The UWTM is responsible for the UIC train inauguration; The UIMCS serves as a central instance for multicasting messages; The UNGS supplies functions for handling data in the NADI. Each component is designed in this thesis via its own interfaces. The UMS provides two categories of services:system service and user service, both of which are designed wholly.System services include preconfiguring and starting the WTB link layer, carrying out UIC inauguration, reception of correction information and distribution to all other WTB nodes, building up and maintaining the NADI, handing of a redundant gateway and so on. User services include17items which allow a remote or local user to control communication, How the UMS realizes every service is analyzed in detail.Finally, an experiment platform is built to testify the functions of UMS. UIC inauguration and one typical user service are verified, and the experimental results are in consistence with the theoretical ones.
