With the development of science and technology constantly, the substation in the gather, conveying and dealing with data information on key technologies such as constantly to develop in the direction of digital, an important part of the substation with the help of the advanced communication technology and information technology, especially the promulgation and implementation of IEC61850standard in technology provide the support for the digital substation and the development direction. Compared with the traditional sense of the protection, digital substation relay protection devices have more elements, which has led to the uncertainty of the system reliable operation, so it is necessary to evaluate the reliability of relay protection are studied.First on the technical features of digital substation and its means of relay protection device structure, on the basis of digital substation automation system is mainly introduced the internal equipment, including non-conventional type of transformer, intelligent switchgear, etc. Describes in detail all kinds of communication technology and digital substation bus network scheme, design modeling of sampling value transmission model, and the requirement to make real-time communication network. When communication network reliability research put forward the path set algorithm, and adopt three methods for reliability optimization algorithm. And then gives a new algorithm-GO method from the traditional evaluation method applied in system reliability analysis. Compared with fault tree analysis, the GO method has the advantages of the model is compact, easy to repair. Finally focus from hardware and software aspects of digital substation relay protection put forward a series of improving measures about reliability.In this paper the main algorithm for digital system reliability analysis-based on shortest path set algorithm and traditional evaluation method, the fault tree analysis method to make improvements, Instance shows that the improved algorithm and the good performance of the GO method, can be used as the future of digital substation relay protection system reliability comprehensive evaluation reference. For digital substation in the problems of modeling, function parameters such as the core technology has a certain guiding significance.
