With the continuous development of our economy, manufacturing industries develop rapidly. Many components of products will consume resources and energy and have a large emission to the environment from raw materials acquisition, manufacturing to the recycling process. Resource and environmental problems will have a significant impact to the long-term development of economy. At the same time, the manufacturing industry should not only cut down the design cycle but also consider the environmental impact of products for responsing to market competition. Therefore, considering green design in products design phase will be an important research direction. How to design corresponding software to quantitative evaluate the environmental performance is also an important research content. In this paper, the method proposed to evaluate material hazardous and carbon emission of a component based model can achieve synchronization in the process of component design for quantitative assessment of environmental performance of the component. AHP method was used to evaluate the materials potential hazardous combine with MSDS. The carbon emission of the component was calculated from raw materials acquisition, manufacturing to the recycling process, the corresponding theoretical calculation formulas have also been given. Using Pro/E secondary development technique to achieve the parametric design of components and getting parts geometric parameters. A Pro/E plug-in was developed and also the materials information database, equipment and materials toxic potential assessment value database were established. The plug-in can evaluate the material hazardous and carbon emission of the component by getting information from the part model in Pro/E. A shaft part was used for example to expound the effectiveness of the plug-in and how to use the plug-in.
