With the rapid development of automobile industry as well as the popularity ofthe family vehicle, the number of the driver is growing. Diverse requirements aboutare came up with. Many drivers assistive devices, such as electronic dog, navigation,automobile data recorder, etc. emerged. Herein the gear shift indicator also belongs tothe drivers assistive device. When driving, the device analyses the current operatingstatus of the vehicle based on obtained parameters. Then the device indicates the bestchoices of gear. This can train good driving habits. Meanwhile the device can improvepower and economy of the vehicle. And the vehicle remains in good workingcondition, extending the life of the drive system.For many drivers mishandled the shift timing of the vehicle, want to developed adevice of the gear shift indicator based on On-Board Diagnostic system. The shiftcontrol strategy what the device uses is self-correcting. And it can recognize the roadcondition and driver’s intention. Finally, the device has be tested in the road, and theresults were in accord with theory analysis. In this paper, the research was mainlydone in the following areas:First, understand the current situation at home and abroad about the studyingissue. Reading a great deal of domestic literature which are related, summary andabsorb previous outstanding research, finding the existing shortcomings in thedirection of this project.Secondly, introduce the current development of the shift schedule. Then point outthe advantages and disadvantages of the current shift schedule. Put forward a selfcorrecting shift control strategy on the basis of the two-parameter shift schedule. Thenimprove the accuracy of shift schedule table by adding a parameter and intensive, andimprove the correction efficiency by the linkage point shift correction method.Then, design the hardware and software systems of the gear shift indicator whichwas based on the OBD system. Hardware system is mainly composed of the ELM327,the GS-216, the micro-processor and its peripheral circuit, acceleration module MPU6050, voice module SYN6288, storage module EEPROM, OLED and othercomponents. The software system of the device includes the data acquisition module,analysis and processing module, shift schedule since the correction modules etc. Thispaper describes the function of each part of the hardware system and software systems.In addition, the paper also detailed the fuel consumption calculation based OBDsystems.Finally, the experimental verification was done in the road. First, the basicfunction of the device was tested. Then, the power mode, economy mode andintegrated mode were tested.The experiment shows that this device can provide timely gear selection; when inthe power mode and economy mode, power and economy of the vehicle are improved,while self-correction method can be further improved power and economy of thevehicle. In the integrated mode, this device can recognize the driver’s intention andthe road conditions, then adjusts shift points accordingly based on the recognitionresult.
