Operation system of the general cargo terminal is a complex discrete eventdynamic system, and its production elements are correlated and constrained mutually.In recent years, with the rapid development of the transportation market and the trendof larger-sized vessel, the demand to the operation for general cargo terminal is moreand more critical. How to make a more reasonable and effective plan to exploit thefurthest operation efficiency and achieve the optimal management of general cargoterminal have become an important research. In this paper, the modeling andsimulation of the operation system for general cargo terminal is studied based on theoperation features and the production site investigation.Firstly, the operation system for general cargo terminal is systematically analyzed,and the probability distributions of stochastic variables are summarized in the view ofinvestigation data. Secondly, the Petri net methodology is employed to establish thedynamic model of the handling operation line for general cargo. As to drop and pulltransport mode of the carriage, the handling operation line modeling method with thecarriage as operation unit is proposed. In addition, after the production segments aresimplified reasonably under the simulation targets and the dynamic model of thehandling operation line, the2D-visualization simulation model of the operation systemfor general cargo is established in the Plant Simulation software. Lastly, six simulationschemes are put forward by designing three yard storage strategies and two handlingline allocation strategies, and their statistical date is obtained based on the operationsystem simulation model. Then the six schemes are evaluated by integrating theAnalytic Hierarchy Process and the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity toIdeal Solution. The beneficial reference is provided for making the general cargostorage and handling line allocation scientific.
