The Technology And Application Of Weather Imulation In Marine Simulator

With the development of modern computer and virtual reality technology, it’spossible to use virtual reality technology in the marine simulator. Using virtual realitytechnology to simulate the weather of real ships’ sailing is important for crew’s drivingtraining in different environments.Rain, snow and fog’s simulation is the mainly target of weather simulation in themarine simulator.Combining with weather’s standard data of different levels, particlesystems are used to simulate rainfall and snowfall effect, and the settings of thehorizontal visibility are used to simulate the sea fog, so the weather simulation scenecan be relatively realistic.Firstly, particle systems and their composition are introduced, and then thedevelopment of graphic processors and the process of pipelines’ implementation aredescribed. Secondly, equations of the factors of weather simulation are established toprepare for the final simulation effect, which is combined with weather data. Thirdly,the motional equations of raindrops are established based on the basic methods ofaerodynamics and particle systems, and texture mapping is used to improve theimages’ effect of display. Finally, new methods are used to improve the frame rate ofrainfall in particles’ generation and destruction. For snowfall’s simulation, similarmethods of rainfall’s simulation are taken to realize the simulation by changing theequations’ parameters and the texture mapping. The effect of sea fog’s simulation isrealized by combining with horizontal visibility under different visibility conditions.The final rain, snow and fog’s simulation can run smoothly in the virtual scene, andhave a good sense of reality.
