In recent years, significant changes have taken place in our country’s interior design field. The influx of western design ideas impact China’s interior design industry and make it like a hundred flowers in bloom. With the improvement of living standards, people’s demand and expectation of on living environment are higher, and they also want their house have a certain cultural connotation. This is both an opportunity and challenge to our country on our public space design. A lot of public space design works are full of foreign style rather than their own, and copying or bring a little change is often used as their new design. Public space design attaches great importance to function and appearance, the cultural connotation and spiritual level are ignored, which is the uniqueness of Chinese culture.In addition, the meaning and idea of some public space design works are expressed too simple, all these lead to irreconcilable conflict between the culture and public space design. So this article chooses Zen Culture as a starting point in this paper, to explore how to combine traditional culture into public space design in China.Based on the development and thought of Zen Culture, we study but are not limited by it. Zen culture is included in Chinese traditional culture; by bring the Zen Culture into public space design, we can reveal traditional culture in public space design in future. By discussing the meaning and impact of the Zen Culture in the contemporary art and design, we can explore reference forms of expression. Not only by comparing the similarities and differences and of Zen Culture application in China and Japan, but also doing actual research, we can sum up some design principles and methods the combination of Zen Culture and public space design. At last, the project examples are also providing some reference for the design of the Zen Culture.
