Contraction of cities is hidden in the extreme expansion of a special type of urban form, it is already under way in China, this article aims to through the city’s shrinkage phenomenon, the author analyzes the reasons of its formation, cause the public attention to the urban development. Such global problems as environmental, social, population eventually can be classified as urban problems, contraction and expansion as the polarization phenomenon in the process of city reconstruction, is affecting the urban structure of the future society.In this paper by reviewing the history of the city, and compared the difference of Chinese and western cities, from a variety of angles, trying to define the city, and discusses the city and the people, society, ecology and art from four aspects, the relationship between contradiction, by discussing these phenomena behind city urban internal inevitable paradox, examine the nature of the city and meaning; This article refine out the city’s most basic elements- people, as the city of soil humus, the impact on the future urban pattern, and redefine the city and the relationship between human, nature and society; System, from the city to understand consumer behavior and use a series of environmental effect in cities, to analyze the role of art in the city and may play a role in the process of urbanization in the future.For a variety of urban development must experience, is the litmus test of human, in the face of the city like loose sand, this paper is intended to cause profound thinking on the urban environment change, find the crisis behind the opportunity of sustainable development, realize the sustainable development of city in a sustainable way, make cities around us the most real and natural.
